Cell Block Survival is a one day course designed to address the realities of working in a correctional environment and enhance officer safety. Rooted in our foundational belief that quality training should offer realistic, practical and immediately applicable tools for officer safety, the goal of this class is simple: 1. Arm officers with winning communication techniques to build rapport, control the irrational, quickly read subtle, non-verbal cues that identify signs of pre-attack. 2. Educate officers in development of the 5%’er Mindset. Prepare officers to win force encounters by examining our physiological responses during an incident and how it affects our ability to make effective decisions under stress. 3. Enhance officer’s ability to recognize the limitations of and employ countermeasures to limit opportunities for escape. Enhance searching techniques to identify hidden weapons/contraband concealed on the inmate or within close proximity (area searches). This three-day course is intended for both detectives and patrol officers who may be tasked with investigating child abuse and sexual assault cases. Topics to be covered will include law, indicators of criminal activity, interviewing techniques, Sexual Assault Response Team protocols and other considerations when dealing with special victims. The Class One Special Law Enforcement Officer has limited enforcement powers. The officer may enforce law for motor vehicle violations, city ordinances, petty disorderly persons offenses and disorderly persons offenses. Upon graduation the officer receives full certification as a Class One Special Law Enforcement Officer from the New Jersey Police Training Commission and have these enforcement powers while working. The academy course is 80 hours long and includes course in criminal law, motor vehicle law, community responsibility, handling disputes and disturbances, traffic direction, use of force, handcuffing, defensive tactics, police baton, first aid and CPR. Sponsorship by a police agency is required.
The police agency will, upon agreement of employment,forward an application to the academy on your behalf.

This is the basic or at-scene course that teaches students the proper techniques for recognizing and properly recording vehicle collision results on roadways and gathering critical evidence that may be used to reconstruct a crash at a later date. The police officer will learn information from and about people / vehicles / roads, how to measure collision scenes, make field sketches, draw after crash diagrams to scale, make simple speed estimates, and systematically photograph vehicles and crash scenes.

The New Jersey Regional Community Policing Institute will be conducting a ten day modular training program at our facility. This 80 hour program offers a complete basic education in community policing. Completion of all ten modules and a capstone project are required for graduation. The Capstone Project is a real world application of the theory presented in the training modules where students develop and implement community projects.
