NRA Patrol Rifle Instructor Course

This School centers on the patrol rifle for the officers using iron sights or optics. The classroom portion informs students how to teach basic fundamentals of rifle marksmanship and handling, how to zero iron-sighted rifles, discusses zeroing policy and liability concerns. Range work quickly moves from basic marksmanship to tactical movement, use of cover, various firing positions, pivots and turns, use of the safety circle concept, reloading under stress, firing on the move, multiple threats, decision-making, and reduced light threat identification and firing. Information relating to equipment needed and cost can be obtained at the NRA web site. ALL registration is through the NRA through their web site.

NRA Tactical Shooting Instructor Course

The Tactical Shooting School is intended for experienced and certified firearm instructors. The basics of instructing, communication skills, use of training aids, construction of lesson plans, and other basic instructor classes are not included in this school. The school advances towards teaching the tactical use of the duty handgun, secondary handgun and long gun (patrol rifle or shotgun with slugs). Students MUST possess strong firearm handling skills prior to attending this school. The program concentrates on advanced shooting skills, use of the "safety circle" concept, pivoting and turning to fire, movement, unconventional shooting positions, two-man patrol tactics, use of the back-up handgun, use of the off-duty handgun, an extended reduced light training session and decision making under stress. Nutrition for Law Enforcement and First Responders

This course is designed to educate Law Enforcement officers, Correction officers, Firefighters and EMS personnel about nutrition and the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and it's relationship to job performance. Students will be provided with practical and productive ways to incorporate nutrition and address the challenges that affect job performance, particularly where time constraints and shift work are an obstacle. Students will be able to incorporate what they learn immediately into their daily lives.

Officer Survival Instructor Course

The course is designed to introduce officers to the officer survival program. Completion of this training will enable the student to instruct in survival skills, analyze and critique training scenarios. This program will qualify an officer to instruct in the Simunitions portion of the in-service training program. Prerequisite is five years of service. Preference will be given to existing firearms instructors, role players and defensive tactics instructors.

Officer Survival Instructor Recertification

These one day recertifications are necessary for all current officer survival instructors to prepare for the in service training program. Pre-requisite: must be a current officer survival instructor and there is no fee for this program.

OPRA for Practioners

This one-day course is designed as a practical, knowledge-centered curriculum for police officials, records clerks and other government officials designated as records custodians. The instructors are former PIOs and include a former executive Assistant Prosecutor and a former Chief of Police. Tuition - $159

P.A.T.R.I.O.T. System

P.A.T.R.I.O.T. Training Course The Atlantic County Police Academy will be delivering a training class on the “PATRIOT System” at the Atlantic County Police Academy 5033 English Creek Ave. Egg Harbor Twp., ( Canale Training Center) NJ. This course is a DHS approved initiative. There is no cost to attend this training. The training is an interactive two-day class and field exercise is designed to provide sworn law enforcement officers with training on using the P.A.T.R.I.O.T. System (Pro-Active Terrorist Recognition and Interdiction Operations and Tactics)™ to detect, deter or minimize terrorist attacks. This training is for law enforcement personnel, who routinely and regularly patrol and monitor activities at mass transit terminals, airports, sporting events, shopping malls, theme parks, school complexes, and other high-volume pedestrian and traffic venues, with training on using the P.A.T.R.I.O.T. System™ in order to detect, deter or minimize terrorist attacks. This workshop focuses on suspicious behaviors and provides pro-active threat mitigation training using an additional effective layer of security within existing budget and resource constraints. This workshop will explain the methodology used by law enforcement and security personnel to detect suspicious behaviors related to terrorist and/or criminal activity. Those individuals who successfully complete the course will be certified to screen members of the public using predetermined standards for ordinary characteristics and behavior. The P.A.T.R.I.O.T. System™ is a low-cost procedure for detecting persons who are high-risk through simple non-custodial and non-threatening, consensual encounters with the public by law enforcement officers and security officers. The goals of the workshop are to: • Identify persons who may be high security risks in public places based on behavior and appearance; • Conduct a brief non-custodial interview to determine if a person is high risk or low risk; • Take appropriate risk mitigating action; and • Identify proactive areas of acceptable resolution Class sizes are limited to twenty-five students.
