State and county officials will break ground on the $2.5 million Tilton Road Drainage Project at 11 AM on Tuesday, June 24 at Burton Avenue (behind Terra Mar Plaza) in Northfield.
The project is designed to alleviate severe flooding along Tilton Road between Route 9 and Cresson Avenue. Plans include the construction of a stormwater system to divert flood waters and maximize retention and recharge in an environmentally sensitive manner.
Tilton Road is one of the county's most heavily traveled roads and serves as a primary evacuation route during emergencies. A history of severe flooding problems, however, has plagued the roadway resulting in an average of 8-12 closings per year and causing great inconvenience for motorists, businesses and residents. The project is expected to alleviate this problem.
