Levinson Encourages Residents to "Step Out" for Improved Health

County residents of all ages are invited to participate in "Step Out Atlantic County...Strides for Health and Vitality", a new walking program designed to improve health and fitness.

According to County Executive Dennis Levinson the program is fun and educational with a focus on attaining personal goals. "Participants in the Step Out program will gain a better understanding of how important physical fitness and balanced nutrition are to our health."

The program includes three fitness, health and nutrition sessions to be held at the Egg Harbor Township Community Center at 3050 Spruce Avenue. The first session will be held on Monday, April 28 from 6:00 - 7:00 PM. Fitness Coordinator Myriah McMahan will provide expert information on the benefits of walking and assist new walkers, master walkers and runners in attaining a healthy and fit lifestyle. The session will also offer information on designing a personal walking program, selecting appropriate walking gear and clothing, warming up, stretching and cooling down, as well as nutrition tips. Those who attend will receive a logbook to track their progress and a health assessment guide. After attending the second session, participants will receive a free pedometer to tract their STEPS.

The Step Out program is sponsored by the Atlantic County Children and Families Initiative in collaboration with Rutgers Cooperative Extension.

To pre-register for the program or for more information, please call Melfreda Bordley at 569-0376.
