County Announces Funding Awards for Local Arts Organizations

Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson has announced local arts development funding awards from the NJ State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, administered through the Atlantic County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs. The Local Arts Development Grant Program is an annual competitive grant proposal process to assist in the development of quality arts programming at the local level. More than $80,000.00 has been earmarked for this funding. All grants in this program are matched by the local organization at a minimum of one to one. All organizations are 501 (c) (3) tax exempt organizations.

The Local Arts Development program provides funding support for a wide variety of programs which either provide new or continued opportunities for Atlantic County artists or provide new or continued opportunities for Atlantic County audiences. This funding helps to provide for an active and vibrant arts community in the visual, performing and literary arts which augments the quality of life in Atlantic County.

1. The Teachers Theater, NJ Theater Educators Coalition, Inc. - Based in Brigantine Project: funding will provide opportunity for this statewide coalition to bring play development opportunities to the southern portion of the state which will include the creation of opportunities for area actors, directors, writers and technicians

2. Atlantic Contemporary Ballet Theater - Based in Galloway Township
Project: funding will provide for the presentation of a multicultural ballet production with performance opportunities for 12 professional dancers


3. Atlantic City Dance Theater Center for Cultural Learning - Based in Atlantic City
Project: funding will provide artists fees for a series of free summer performances by professional dancers from nationally known companies at Kennedy Plaza on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City and the opportunity for young dancers to meet and interact with professional dancers, as well as a performance showcase for young performers

4. Buena Vista Township - Based in Buena Vista Township
Project: funding will provide artists fees for a series of free summer outdoor concerts and art exhibitions featuring artists and musicians from Atlantic County and Southern New Jersey

5. South Jersey Area Wind Ensemble - Based in Linwood
Project: funding will provide the services of a guest conductor and composer for musical organization comprised of local and regional professional and amateur musicians

6. City of Absecon - Based in Absecon
Project: funding will provide artists fees for free summer outdoor concerts in Heritage Park

7. Buena Borough - Based in Minotola
Project: funding will provide artists fees for a series of free summer outdoor concerts

8. Dance Arts League of Atlantic County - Based in Linwood
Project: funding will provide artists fees for educational outreach programs to the Special Services School District

9. South Jersey Stage Company - Based in Atlantic City
Project: funding will provide artist fees for "First Tuesday" a series of programs to showcase arts programming which will soon be available in the newly renovated Dante Hall Center for the Performing Arts

10. Chicken Bone Beach Historical Foundation - Based in Atlantic City
Project: funding will provide artists fees for a series of free summer concerts featuring nationally known jazz musicians and providing opportunities for regional musicians as opening acts, every Thursday in July and August, Kennedy Plaza, Atlantic City Boardwalk.

11. Atlantic City Art Center - Based in Atlantic City
Project: funding will provide partial funding for fees associated with the presentation of multicultural visual art exhibits and increased marketing of events

12. Cygnus Creative Art Center - Based in Egg Harbor Township
Project: funding will provide partial costs for full-length production of a ballet which provides opportunities for local and regional young dancers.

13. Margate Business Association - Based in Margate
Project: funding will assist with increasing advertising for festival that features opportunities for showcasing working visual artists, displays and performances.

14. Northfield Cultural Committee - Based in the City of Northfield
Project: funding will provide artist fees for a series of free outdoor summer concerts held in a large municipal park (Birch Grove)

15. Hammonton Art Center - Based in the City of Hammonton
Project: funding will provide artist/teacher fees for a series of classes and workshops in western under-served area of the county.

16. Somers Point Foundation for Education - Based in the City of Somers Point
Project: funding will provide artist fees for a 2-day Jazz Festival in Somers Point

17. South Jersey Regional Theater - Based in the City of Somers Point
Project: funding will assist with costs associated with the presentation of a series of community theater productions

18. Stockton Experimental Theater Program - Based in Pomona
Project: funding will provide 2 guest artists for theater presentations to the public.

19. Stockton Art Gallery - Based in Pomona
Project: funding will provide honorariums for guest speakers for Photography exhibit and outdoor sculpture exhibit.

20. Atlantic County Library Foundation - Based in Mays Landing
Project: funding will provide honorariums for author/illustrator programs at regional libraries

21. Ventnor Community Church - Based in Ventnor
Project: funding will provide artists fees for a series of monthly classical concerts featuring local and regional artists.

22. City of Egg Harbor - Based in Egg Harbor City
Project: funding will provide artists fees for a series of free outdoor summer concerts and/or theater performances in municipal park

23. South Jersey Theater Ensemble - Based in Pleasantville
Project: funding will provide for a series of performances of works by African-American playwrights and provide opportunities for local and regional actors


24. Ventnor City Cultural Art Center - Based in Ventnor
Project: funding will provide artists fees for teachers and some supplies for the Young
People's Summer Arts Workshops.

25. Atlantic Cape Community College - Based in Mays Landing
Project: funding will provide fees associated with visual arts and poetry program for 11th grade students

26. Stockton Dance Company - Based in Pomona
Project: funding will provide services of two guest choreographers who will create two new works for dance company comprised of regional professional dancers and students.

27. Girl Scouts of South Jersey Pines - Based in Egg Harbor Township
Project: funding will provide artist/teacher fees for "Art Is All Around" a series of workshops to introduce young people from urban and under served areas to a wide range of arts disciplines and mediums.

28. Hispanic Alliance of Atlantic County, Inc. - Based in Atlantic City
Project: funding will provide artist fees for folkloric dance and music for large Latino American Festival

29. Township of Weymouth - Based in Dorothy, Weymouth Township
Project: funding will provide artist fees for "summer arts festival to include music, dance and theater

30. Bungalow Park Civic Association - Based in Atlantic City
Project: funding will provide artist/teachers fees for visual art classes for youth at risk after school and summer camp program, as well as senior citizen classes

31. Atlantic County Council of Youth Programs, Inc. - Based in Atlantic City
Project: funding will provide artist/teacher fees for professional instructors to provide workshops in performing arts in various locations through the Atlantic City Theater Guild

32. John Kuzman Memorial American Legion Post - Based in Longport
Project: funding will provide support toward the artist fee for local metal design artist for work on public memorial piece
