Educating First Responders About Autism

This one night seminar will demonstrate how large and growing the autism population is in New Jersey. It will identify those symptoms and behaviors that indicate an autism diagnosis; it will explain how these persons are likely to react to normal police and first responder protocols because of their disability. Law Enforcement trained certified instructors will provide tangibile, useable nuts-and-bolts type of information to minimize liability, de-escalate situations and promote successful outcomes during the seminar. 1.5 Public Health CEs available. 1.5 EMT CEUs applied for.

Emergency Communications Officer

The Emergency Communications Officer Course is for the individual seeking to enter the field of emergency communications or already working in and emergency communications center. Upon completion of this course the student will be able to receive and process 9-1-1 calls, make appropriate response decisions and provide agency-approved pre-arrival instructions to callers.

Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD)

This course, rewritten in 1996, used the NHTSA's National Standard Curriculum for EMD as its basis. Completion of the New Jersey Basic EMD Course means that the student has met all of the requirements of National Standard Curriculum. Topics covered provide the student with the knowledge and foundation to answer calls for emergency medical service and properly prioritize the response. The course also provides the student with the knowledge needed to convey proper pre-arrival instructions to the caller when needed.

Emergency Medical Service Operations and Planning for WMD

This course will equip pre-hospital and hospital medical personnel with the skills needed to ensure proper patient triage, treatment, and transportation in the event of exposure to a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE) weapons. First responders will use their training to demonstrate proper techniques for assessment, triage, mass decontamination, treatment and stabilization.

Emergency Operations Center - Documentation Unit

The EOC Documentation Unit is responsible for the maintenance of accurate, up-to-date incident files. Examples of incident documentation include: Incident Action Plan (IAP), incident reports, communication logs, injury claims, situation status reports, etc. Thorough documentation is critical to post-incident analysis. Some of the documents may originate in other sections. This unit shall ensure each section is maintaining and providing appropriate documents. The Documentation Unit will provide duplication and copying services for all other sections. The Documentation Unit will store incident files for legal, analytical, and historical purposes.

Emergency Operations Center - Situation Unit

Situation Unit Functions: Identify Information Needs Gathering, analyzing, and evaluating incident/event information and turning it into intelligence Preparing and displaying incident/event information Providing mapping, predictive, and risk assessment services Submitting reports and documentation Assist with the production of the Incident Action Plan (IAP). It is the job of the Situation Unit to gather the information that is needed for Operations and the other EOC personnel and turn this information into intelligence. Information is data that may be right or wrong. It is the job of the Situation Unit to determine what the truth is, what is really happening, and what intelligence is most crucial to the incident/event.

Emergency Preparedness: Access and Functional Needs in the Disability Community

This half-day workshop addresses the impact challenges to recovery from a disaster for individuals with physical and/or cognitive disabilities. Whether in the home or a disaster shelter, it is important to understand, anticipate and be prepared to assist an individual in their unique recovery needs. This awareness level training program introduces important information for disaster counselors in order to better understand and address post-disaster challenges for individuals with disabilities. Objectives: • Identify the unique barriers individuals with access and functional needs (AFN) face before, during and after an emergency • Understand how to effectively communicate with individuals with AFN • Compare and contrast the social and medical models of disability • Identify available Functional Need Support Services • Understand non-discrimination guidelines
