Incidents of mass violence, such as the shootings in Aurora, CO and Newtown, CT, as well as the bombing at the Boston Marathon produce unique and complex psycho-social reactions in individuals and communities. This full-day program explores the types and nature of acts of mass violence, as well as the emotional and behavioral reactions to these incidents. Attention is also given to the demands on first responders and others who reach out to help. Both long- and short-term mental health effects are explored, as well as models and methods of support and intervention, and integration with Victim Service providers and other agencies responding to an act of mass crime. Objective At the conclusion of this program, individuals will be able to describe the different dynamics of incidents of mass violence, the impact of mass violence, as well as psychological first aid techniques and other strategies for providing crisis counseling in the wake of a mass violence event.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) New Jersey Division will be conducting a one day seminar on Methamphetamine Safety and Awareness for First Responders. This training program is designed to prepare the police officer, firefighter, or EMT to recognize specialized problems and hazards associated with the production of methamphetamine. Topics which will be covered will include History and Effects of Methamphetamine, Emerging Trends in Methamphetamine Production, and Clandestine Laboratories Awareness. The objective of this course is to enable the first responder emergency personnel to be able to recognize and identify a methamphetamine or clandestine laboratory while answering a fire, medical, or other emergency call and apply techniques for overall safety.

It provides a basic understanding of ICS, unified and area command, and multi-agency coordination to those persons responsible for establishing or implementing policy, but who normally are not a part of the on-scene ICS organization. This module also will discuss responsibilities and information transfer between Executives and Incident Commanders.

ICS Orientation is intended for personnel assigned to an incident or event who have a minimum requirement for understanding ICS. This module reviews the ICS organization, basic terminology, and command responsibilities. It will provide enough information about the Incident Command System to enable you to work in a support role at an incident or event, or to support an incident from an off-site location.
