The radar instructor refresher training course is intended for Division of Criminal Justice certified radar instructors with certification expiring. The course is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and covers administration of radar training, operation of doppler radar, and case law.
For registration information, please contact 732-282-6062. This course is required by the Division of Criminal Justice to maintain certification in the voluntary radar training program.
Successful completion of this course will renew certification for a period of three years.

This is an eight (8) hour course designed to improve the effectiveness of speed enforcement through the proper use of police traffic RADAR. The course covers the mandated four (4) hours of classroom instruction and the four (4) hours of supervised hands-on practical training in RADAR operation. An additional eighty (80) hours of hands-on, non-enforcement operation of the RADAR equipment is to be completed at the officers' respective agencies to satisfy the certification requirements through the Division of Criminal Justice. An all-new program designed for officers who is dispatched by police radio to a scene where a particular type of crime or offense is currently being perpetrated. The program will review both major and minor types of events to which officers are typically called to investigate. Topics include: (1) how a call of a crime in progress is different from other type calls; (2) FBI Part One Crimes; (3) non-FBI Part One Crimes and Offenses to which officers called to investigation; (4) factors officers must take into account prior to arrival on the scene. The next portion of the program will consider and discuss at some length common crimes investigating officers are called to investigate and what must be taken into account prior to arrival at the scene; (1) rape in progress; (2) robbery in progress; (3) burglary in progress; (4) motor vehicle theft in progress; (5) person with a gun complaint; and (6) domestic or other type disturbance in progress; (7) initial investigation and officer safety considerations; and (8) reporting to police radio results of the on-site investigation. This five-day course prepares the law enforcement firearms instructor to teach the fundamentals of operating the law enforcement assault rifle. Successful completion of this course certifies the instructor to qualify assault rifle operators under the Attorney General’s Requalification Guidelines. Instruction includes nomenclature, malfunction clearance, semi-automatic and full automatic manipulation drills, shooting on the move, and other street relevant courses of fire. (Note: This is not a police Carbine Instructor Course).
Class size is limited to 15.
Candidates must provide a copy of certificate confirming successful completion of a Firearms Instructor Course upon registration. Candidates must achieve a score of 90% on the Automatic/Semi-Automatic Police Service Rifle Qualification Course (ARQC), demonstrate safe handling skills and pass a written examination to successfully complete the course.
Necessary equipment includes a police service/assault rifle (rifle which fires ammunition greater than 2,000 fps (AR-15, M-16, G36), .223 cal. preferred) with sling; four magazines for the rifle; 2,000 rounds of ammunition for the rifle; a flashlight or rifle attached lighting device; service handgun and holster; 100 rounds of ammunition for the handgun;60 Q targets, wrap-around eye protection; hearing protection; baseball style or other hat with a wide front brim; long sleeve shirts; rain gear (no ponchos); spotting scope or binoculars; and a cleaning kit.
