Advanced Search and Seizure

This is the premier Blue to Gold Course. This course is designed for experienced law enforcement officers who already possess a background knowledge and functional experience in search and seizure law. The instruction is advanced and fast-paced and uses case studies to explain the development and the current status of the legal aspects of searches and seizures. TOPICS COVERED We reinforce the following eight concepts: The legal developments in the two types of searches since the Supreme Court decision in United States v. Jones The legal developments in the increased protection being afforded to curtilage The complex legal aspects of making traffic stops to conduct drug distribution investigations The legal developments in searches incident to arrest Mastering the concept of consent searches, including apparent authority Conducting searches and seizures of digital storage devices Developments in obtaining cell site location information and pinging cellphone location Applying the concept of the “Fourth Amendment Dominos” We then move into these advanced eight topics: Laws regarding protests Conduct during citizen video recordings Warrantless entries into homes and businesses Warrantless searches of vehicles Interview and interrogation laws Dealing with constitutionalists Search incident to arrest And much more.

Agency Spokesperson Seminar - Benchmark Training

A basic two-day seminar for the designated public information officer, chief, assistant chief or other agency individual who serve as a spokesperson for their department with the media during an event involving wide community interest or concern. The seminar is oriented is primarily for those with little formal training on dealing with the media and will present fundamental information to assist such personnel to enhance their skills in serving as the liaison between their department and the media. Topics to be presented over the two days include: (1) role/goal of a public information officer; (2) legal aspects and repercussions of disseminating information; (3) writing news releases that have impact and get noticed; (4) handling tricky questions; (5) never having to say "no comment"; (6) State Public Records Law; (7) building a solid relationship with local reporters; (8) using the media to your advantage; (9) being "on call"--a necessary part of the job; and (10) handling the intense media spotlight when a tragedy or major case occurs. Airsoft Force on Force Instructor Training

This program is taught by Sigarms and is designed to train instructors to employ sound decision making and tactics in Use-of-force situations. This course will focus on reality based training and employ airsoft weapons firing plastic projectiles.

Annual Police In-Service Training

This is a two day in-service program for sworn officers covering topics mandated by the Attorney General's Office. Officers may attend both days in the same week or split the days. There is no need to pre-register, simply show up. Attire is the uniform of the day or business casual. On Tuesdays officers may bring gym/PT attire for the Defensive Tactics portion of the training. AR15 / M16 Armorer Course

AR15 Instructor Course

This five-day course prepares the law enforcement firearms instructor to teach the fundamentals of operating the law enforcement assault rifle. Successful completion of this course certifies the instructor to qualify assault rifle operators under the Attorney General’s Requalification Guidelines. Instruction includes nomenclature, malfunction clearance, semi-automatic and full automatic manipulation drills, shooting on the move, and other street relevant courses of fire. (Note: This is not a police Carbine Instructor Course). Class size is limited to 10. Candidates must provide a copy of certificate confirming successful completion of a Firearms Instructor Course upon registration. Candidates must achieve a score of 90% on the Automatic/Semi-Automatic Police Service Rifle Qualification Course (ARQC), demonstrate safe handling skills and prepare a lesson plan to successfully complete the course. Necessary equipment includes a police service/assault rifle (rifle which fires ammunition greater than 2,000 fps (AR-15, M-16, G36), .223 cal. preferred) with sling; four magazines for the rifle; 2,000 rounds of ammunition for the rifle; a flashlight or rifle attached lighting device; service handgun and holster; 500 rounds of ammunition for the handgun;60 Q targets, wrap-around eye protection; hearing protection; baseball style hat with a wide front brim; long sleeve shirts; rain gear (no ponchos); spotting scope or binoculars; and a cleaning kit.

Basic Call Taker/Dispatch Procedures

This program will assist the participant in focusing on critical areas and problems associated with communication center call-taking and dispatching. Effort will be spent looking at the specific communication center environment and discussing the special skills and techniques required of personnel engaged in these functions and fulfillment of their duties. Special skills and techniques will be discussed along with the necessary attributes for communication center personnel. By the conclusion of the program, participants should have a better understanding of (1) role of communications in public safety; (2) communication center environment: staffing, stress, and personal rewards; (3) ethics and integrity in communications; (4) call-taker roles and responsibilities--accountability to community and department; (5) telephone techniques and CAD entries; (6) challenges of language barriers including foreign, slang, and cultural differences; (7) dispatcher roles and responsibilities in terms of community needs and officer safety; (8) keys to effective communication for the radio operator; (9) radio language: code and professional demeanor; (10) effective pre-arrival instructions; and (11) liability issues for the call-taker and radio operator.
