Course Description:
Don’t be caught unaware. Many first responders will encounter a situation that will involve an animal in need of medical attention. This two hour training focuses on what to do in an emergency when there is an animal involved.
The focus audience for this presentation will be: Fire, EMS, Police, Search and Rescue, and CART volunteers.
Highlights of the presentation with include:
• Recognizing common medical emergencies
• Basic First Aid for common illnesses and injuries
• Trauma stabilization
• Safe handling of injured cats and dogs
• Common household toxins
• Hands on CPR instruction on our dummy dog “Jerry”
Presentation will be followed by a question and answer period with Dr. Montealegre and veterinary technicians of RBVH-Linwood.
Many fire companies and EMS have recently been provided with oxygen masks for pets. Please bring any first aid supplies you have for pets, if able, and we will make sure you are comfortable on when they should be used.
