“Emergency Responders and the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community: Taking the First Steps to Disaster Preparedness”

How to Apply:            Complete the attached NJOEM application form and submit via normal channels.  Course space is limited in order to facilitate group discussions.  Please register early.  You will be notified of acceptance via email.

 

About the Course:      New Jersey is home to approximately 703,000 individuals who are Deaf or hard of hearing.  This course will provide participants with an understanding of the tools and knowledge needed to prepare an all-hazards community response and recovery for deaf, hard of hearing, late-deafened, and deaf-blind individuals.   

Topics covered include:  recognizing and understand hearing loss; understanding which communication mode is appropriate for different scenarios and/or different hearing loss types; identifying appropriate resources that may be available within the community/region; developing an infrastructure of community sources; sharing information with consumer leaders within the deaf, deaf-blind, hard of hearing and late-deafened communities who will also be course participants.

 An NJOEM course completion certificate will be provided.
