Atlantic County will honor its veterans at the annual Memorial Day Program on Friday, May 24 at 3 PM at the veterans cemetery located in the Estell Manor Park on Route 50 in Mays Landing.
County Executive Dennis Levinson emphasized the importance of this ceremony as a tribute to all of our veterans who selflessly risked their lives to protect our country. Levinson further added, "In the aftermath of September 11, their sacrifice seems even more significant. It is because of them that we continue to enjoy freedom today."
The ceremony will feature honor guard, bagpipers and buglers and the traditional presentation of the memorial wreath. It will also include a special presentation by Levinson to Mrs. Katherine Cramer. Cramer recently made a donation to the veterans cemetery in memory of her husband, Benjamin Cramer, who was interred in August 2000 with full military honors. Her contribution has provided 14 wooden benches, a white brick walkway and a gazebo that has enhanced the beauty of the cemetery and provided a quiet place of reflection for its visitors.
Senator William Gormley will deliver the keynote address.
