Atlantic County Emergency Officials Urge Public to Stay Off Roads

In the aftermath of Tropical Storm Isaias, Atlantic County emergency management officials are advising the public to stay off the roadways as much as possible until further notice as there are a significant number of downed trees and wires making travel hazardous.

“There are numerous power outages throughout Atlantic County,” stated Emergency Management Coordinator Vince Jones, “and crews will be able to de-energize lines and remove debris much quicker with fewer motorists on the roadways.”

Crews were prevented from immediately going out due to the high winds earlier in the day, but the winds have now subsided making it safer for clean-up and restoration efforts to begin, according to Jones.

His advice to the public: “If you don’t have to go out, don’t. And if you are out, remain where you are for the time being so crews can do their job.”

Anyone who has a life-threatening emergency should all 9-1-1. All other emergencies should be reported to the local Office of Emergency Management. Contact numbers are available at: https://www.readyatlantic.org/mainpages/localems.asp
