Atlantic County Offers Respite Care Services for Adult Caregivers

Caring for an elderly or functionally impaired family member can result in added responsibilities and stress. But help is available.

Atlantic County offers assistance to eligible families who care for a loved one 18 years and older who has a physical and/or mental impairment from an accident, illness or aging.

The Statewide Respite Care Program, administered by Atlantic County, is intended to reduce, delay or prevent the need for institutionalization. It enables families to continue to provide care to their loved ones so they can remain in their homes and in their own communities.

Services include home health aides, medical and social adult health service, temporary care in a licensed medical facility or assisted living facility, and homemaker assistance.

Eligible applicants must provide verification of a monthly income below $2,205 or $4,410 for a couple, and liquid resources of less than $40,000 for an individual and $60,000 for a couple.

All services are based on availability and state service cap limitations.
