Effective, Friday, September 4, Atlantic County officials have issued a 5 mph speed restriction for boaters on Lake Lenape in Mays Landing due to low water levels as a result of a lack of precipitation over the past several weeks. Boaters are also advised to exercise caution to avoid exposed underwater hazards.
Although the month of June was one of the wettest on record in New Jersey, July was the 55th driest since 1895 and August was the 13th driest, according to David Robinson, NJ state climatologist.
County officials will continue to monitor water levels on Lake Lenape. The reduced speed limit will remain in effect until further notice.
