Next Free Rabies Vaccination Clinic - Sunday, Nov. 16

The Atlantic County Animal Shelter will hold its monthly free rabies vaccination clinic for dogs and cats on Sunday, November 16, 9-11 AM, at 240 Old Turnpike Road in Pleasantville.

Owners must bring dogs on leashes and cats in carriers. Vaccination records are also helpful if available.

The Atlantic County Animal Shelter provides a free rabies clinic each month to help protect pets and prevent the spread of rabies, a viral disease that affects the central nervous systems of infected warm-blooded animals. There is no cure for rabies, and it can be fatal if left untreated.

Atlantic County officials encourage residents to vaccinate their pets not only to protect them from the potentially deadly virus but to also provide a barrier to human exposure.

Rabies virus is spread by contact with the saliva of an infected animal. Transmission usually occurs through a bite wound, but may also be spread through a scratch or an existing open wound. Rabies is most common in raccoons and bats, but has also been found in skunks, foxes, cats, groundhogs and other wildlife in New Jersey.
