Mosquito Ground Spray Scheduled for Northfield & Linwood on Friday

The Atlantic County Office of Mosquito Control plans to treat parts of Northfield and Linwood on Friday morning, August 8, between 5 AM and 6 AM as part of its ongoing effort to control adult mosquito populations and reduce the spread of mosquito-borne illness.

The ground spraying will take place, weather permitting, using ground application equipment as follows:

NORTHFIELD - areas bounded by Mt. Vernon Avenue, Shore Road, Oak View Drive, Wabash Avenue, Tilton Road, Infield Avenue and First Avenue

LINWOOD - areas bounded by Revere Avenue, New Road, Central Avenue and Oak Avenue

Ground spraying will be done using Scourge, the trade name for resmethrin, applied as an ultra low volume aerosol.

The Environmental Protection Agency does not require people to relocate or take special precautions during mosquito control spraying. Residents may choose to avoid or minimize exposure by staying indoors during application; keeping windows shut; window fans and air conditioning off or set to circulate indoor air; keeping children’s toys indoors; keeping pets and their food, water dishes and toys indoors.

For health information about the pesticides to be applied in this area, call the Atlantic County Division of Public Health at (609) 645-5971, ext. 4277.

Mosquito Control officials remind residents of the importance of removing standing water from their properties and cleaning their gutters to eliminate potential mosquito breeding grounds.
