Adult females who would like to make a difference by mentoring an adolescent girl are encouraged to participate in the Atlantic County Healthy Youth Development Mentoring Program. The program strives to strengthen individuals and families by enriching the lives of women and teenage girls.
Among the issues addressed by the program are self-esteem, adolescent health and the importance of setting goals and priorities. Participants may also benefit from educational field trips and group activities.
Mentors must be 18 years or older and have completed high school or possess a GED. They are required to make a commitment of one hour per week for one school year. One, three-hour training session is provided.
The mentoring program is supported by the Atlantic County Family Centers in Egg Harbor Township and Pleasantville, the Atlantic City Police Athletic League and the Fanny D. Rittenberg School in Egg Harbor City.
