County Pursues Improvements to Hammonton Intersection

Atlantic County has awarded a $79,000 contract to engineering consultants, Gannett-Fleming, Inc. of Hammonton, to design and inspect the construction of improvements to the intersection of Third Street and Fairview Avenue in Hammonton. The contract was awarded on July 15.

County Executive Dennis Levinson said he was pleased to have the expertise of a local firm familiar with the intersection. Gannett-Fleming, Inc. submitted the lowest bid for the contract that includes the development of an engineering study, a property survey, engineering design, bidding and construction specifications and as-built drawings.

According to Levinson, the county's 2003 highway program called for the repaving of Third Street, from Bellevue Avenue to Fairview Avenue, but upon further research of the roadway the decision was made to make improvements to the intersection in addition to resurfacing. Plans call for construction of improvements to be completed in 2003 followed by the repaving of Third Street in 2004.

"The addition of these improvements is consistent with our commitment to enhance the safety of our roadways and upgrade our transportation infrastructure," concluded Levinson.
