County residents age 60 or older may now enjoy the benefits of water aerobics as part of a new aquatic program being offered at the Brigantine Aquatic Center, 3118 Bayshore Avenue, Brigantine.
"I think most of us would agree that exercising in the water is just more fun than exercising on dry land," said County Executive Dennis Levinson. "This program is designed as a wellness activity for those who seek stretching and strengthening exercises to help ensure good health."
Water aerobics has also been credited with reducing arthritis pain. According to the Arthritis Foundation, the physical benefits of participating in a water aerobics program may include decreased arthritis pain and stiffness, plus social interaction in a friendly atmosphere that may reduce feelings of depression and isolation.
Classes are now being formed. Interested residents may call Robin Taylor at 266-7946 to enroll. The Atlantic County Division of Intergenerational Services has contracted $4,992 for 104 classes at the center.
