Levinson Nominates Ferguson as Permanent County Counsel

Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson announced today the nomination of James F. Ferguson as County Counsel. Ferguson has been serving as County Counsel in an acting capacity since January 1, 2003. He replaces Bill Nugent who resigned to accept a judgeship.

"I am very pleased to nominate Jim to this important position. In the short time he has served as Acting County Counsel he has clearly demonstrated his talent and ability. He is a very capable and competent attorney with the utmost integrity and ethical standards," Levinson said. "Jim is highly regarded in the legal community and has substantial experience in many aspects of law such as litigation and personal injury work. I feel very fortunate to be able to have him as part of my team."

As County Counsel Ferguson is the chief legal officer of county government and is responsible for the administration of its legal affairs.

Ferguson is a graduate of St. Joseph's University and Villanova University School of Law. He has practiced extensively in the area of civil law for the past 22 years and has represented several municipalities and public entities. He has served as Solicitor of Galloway Township and the Board of the Atlantic County Vocational School Board. He was also Special Tax Counsel for Egg Harbor Township from 1996 to 2002 and for the City of Somers Point from 1989 to 2002. He also served as the Municipal Prosecutor in Egg Harbor City.

In addition, he is active in numerous civic and professional organizations. He currently resides in Galloway Township.
