The Atlantic County Library System celebrates National Library Week, April 6-12, 2003 with Food for Fines. During Food for Fines, library users are encouraged to pay overdue fines with non-perishable food items which will be given to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey -- Southern Branch for distribution to local agencies. Last year’s Food for Fines effort netted 881 pounds of donated food items.
The food bank’s most needed items include peanut butter, canned tuna, baked beans, powdered milk, baby food and formula, dry pasta, canned vegetables and fruit, and instant potatoes. However, any donation of unexpired, non-perishable food is greatly appreciated.
Food donations are accepted at all Atlantic County Library System branches: Brigantine (266-0110), Egg Harbor Township (927-8664), Galloway Township (652-2352), Hammonton (561-2264), Longport (487-0272), Mays Landing (625-2776, extension 6304), Pleasantville (641-1778), Somers Point (927-7113), and Ventnor (823-4614).
