County Agrees to Provide Longport with Traffic Signal Repairs

County Executive Dennis Levinson has announced an agreement with the Borough of Longport for the repair of traffic signals along Atlantic and Pacific Avenues in Longport.

The intergovernmental service agreement, approved by the Board of Freeholders on February 4, covers repairs to signals at the intersections of 33rd, 22nd, 17th and 11th Streets and Atlantic Avenue, and at the intersection of 29th Street and Pacific Avenue. The county will perform repairs and be reimbursed by Longport on a time and material basis. The agreement is for one year.

"Since the county is better equipped to handle these particular repairs through these agreements, we optimize our resources," Levinson said. "In this case, it makes sense for the county to do the work. Sometimes it works the other way with the municipality providing the service, as with snow removal here in Longport."

The county will provide repairs to controllers, lights, lamp covers, cross arms and control boxes on the borough's signals but is not contracted to perform inspections.
