Two Atlantic County Corrections Officers will be promoted at a ceremony on Friday, October 11 at 3 PM at the Canale Training Center, 5033 English Creek Avenue, Egg Harbor Township. Officer Suzanne Ramsey of Somers Point will be promoted to Sergeant and Sgt. James Murphy of Egg Harbor Township will be promoted to Lieutenant.
County Executive Dennis Levinson spoke highly of the two officers and their dedication to law enforcement and public safety. "It takes special qualities to perform the responsibilities inherent to this line work. I am grateful for the hard work and outstanding commitment of officers such as Sgt. Ramsey and Lt. Murphy."
Sgt. Ramsey began her career as a Corrections Officer in 1987 at the County's Justice Facility. In April, 2002, she was promoted to Provisional Sergeant before her current appointment as Permanent Sergeant. Sgt. Ramsey was awarded the NRA Sharpshooter Award while attending Corrections Officer Training Academy. In addition to working in a housing pod, she is trained to work in the justice facility's Classification Unit, Admissions Office and Center Control.
Lt. Murphy became an Atlantic County Corrections Officer in 1983. Like Sgt. Ramsey, he was awarded an NRA certificate as an expert shooter during basic training. Lt. Murphy was promoted to Sergeant in December, 1989. He is a 2001 graduate of the West Point Leadership Program and is a certified Firearms Instructor, a Defensive Tactics Instructor and a Fire Safety and Fire Equipment Instructor.
