County Executive Dennis Levinson has announced that the Atlantic County Library System will celebrate National Library Week, April 15-20, with a "Food for Fines" campaign to help support the Southern Branch of the Community Food Bank of New Jersey. Library patrons are encouraged to pay overdue fines with donations of non-perishable food items that will be distributed to local agencies.
"I encourage residents to support this worthwhile effort regardless of whether or not they have a fine," stated Levinson. "It is a wonderful opportunity to help those in need and celebrate the many services provided by our libraries."
Among the food bank's most needed items are peanut butter, canned tuna, baked beans, powdered milk, baby food and formula, dry pasta, canned vegetables and fruit and instant potatoes. However, any donation of unexpired, non-perishable food is welcomed.
Food donations will be accepted at all Atlantic County Library System branches: Brigantine (266-0110), Egg Harbor Township (927-8664), Galloway Township (652-2352), Hammonton (561-2264), Longport (487-0272), Mays Landing (625-2776, ext. 6304), Pleasantville (641-1778), Somers Point (927-7113) and Ventnor (823-4614).
