30th Annual Atlantic County MLK Award Presentation

Atlantic County will host the 30th annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Birthday Celebration at which time County Executive Dennis Levinson will present the county’s Community Spirit award in King’s honor to: 1) Bill and Tammy Schmincke who lost a son to a drug overdose and founded the Stop the Heroin organization to raise awareness and Steven’s Place sober living home in Pleasantville; and 2) Kelsey and Kim Jackson owners of Kelsey and Kim’s Southern Cafe and Kelsey’s restaurant in Atlantic City who help mentor area youth by providing internships and raising funds for culinary scholarships

The ceremony will be held on Friday, January 13 at 11:00 AM in the auditoritum of the county office building, 1333 Atlantic Avenue, Atlantic City.

Each year the county commemorates Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday by honoring individuals who continue to uphold his principles through their involvement in the community and their efforts to improve the lives of their fellow citizens. The keynote address will be presented by The Honorable Mark Sandson, a lifelong county resident and highly respected Superior Court Judge who presides over the Atlantic County Drug Court. Sandson is also a 2005 MLK Community Spirit award recipient.
