Annie Oakley Birthday Celebration Time: 4:00PM - 8:00PM

Come help us celebrate the Birthday of one of America's greatest Lady Shooters. Annie Oakley was born Phoebe Ann Moses on August 13, 1860, Annie was once a resident of the Garden State. Annie was a sharpshooter and exhibition shooter. Her amazing talent first came to light when, at age 15, she won a shooting match with traveling-show marksman Frank E. Butler who would later become her husband. She traveled the World with Wild Bill's Wild West Show where she performed before Kings and Queens of Europe. Ever the Patriot, Annie wanted to to serve her country. So, in 1898, she wrote President McKinley and offered to provide 50 female sharpshooters (with their own arms and ammunition) to fight for the United States in the Spanish-American War. She never got a response. Again in 1917 when her country found itself at war, she contacted the U.S. Secretary of War to offer her expertise to teach an army unit of women shooters to fight in World War I. Again there was no response, so she visited army camps, raised money for the Red Cross, and volunteered with military charities instead. Indeed, Annie embodied everything we see in the community of Gun Owners we have today. A hard working patriot and sportsman, she set the stage for ladies who enjoy the shooting sports today. So this is your day to help us celebrate her life and spirit! Come dressed in your western attire and enjoy an afternoon of good times and good company.
