Environmental Health Education Programs

Educational materials are mailed to members of the public requesting information and are distributed at community events such as the Bayfest in Somers Point and the Earth Day event at the Atlantic County Utilities Authority facility in Egg Harbor Township. Education is often targeted to certain areas or target populations based on need. For example if a rabid animal is found information is distributed at schools, city halls and public parks. Upon receiving a report of a contaminated well, information is sent to residents and businesses in the area via flyers alerting them to the problem and advising them on well testing options. The Unit develops some of the educational materials with other units and departments as needed. (West Nile Information) Small or large group health education sessions on the various programs, such as proper food handling, are available upon request.
